RTW Renames SI to DI
RTW is renaming its Speech Intelligibility (SI) technology to Dialog Intelligibility (DI).
The technology was originally introduced by RTW at IBC in 2018 under the name Speech Intelligibility. Developed to provide an objective indication of how clearly spoken dialog can be understood within a program mix, it has since become an important part of RTW’s approach to audio metering and analysis.
With the formation of the LEAP Meter Manufacturers Group (LMMG) and the joint work to establish a consistent implementation of the technology across different manufacturers, the term Dialog Intelligibility has been adopted as the common terminology.
To align with this industry-wide initiative, RTW will therefore use Dialog Intelligibility going forward. The change is one of terminology rather than purpose: the technology continues to provide engineers with a clear and objective indication of dialog intelligibility, now using terminology shared across participating manufacturers.
Product-wise, the change from Speech Intelligibility to Dialog Intelligibility will be introduced with the upcoming software version 2.3.
The Dialog Intelligibility Bargraph and Chart
The Dialog Intelligibility bargraph shows the current Dialog Intelligibility value, while the chart displays how Dialog Intelligibility changes over time.
Dialog Intelligibility Available for TMxCore
Dialog Intelligibility is now available for TMxCore, providing a clear and intuitive way to monitor how easily spoken dialog can be understood within a program.
Based on technology developed by Fraunhofer IDMT and implemented in accordance with the LMMG Dialog Intelligibility agreement, the measurement provides a Dialog Intelligibility value from 0 to 100 DIU.
TMxCore offers both a Dialog Intelligibility bargraph for monitoring the current value and a chart for tracking Dialog Intelligibility over time, making it easy to identify changes throughout a program.
Dialog Intelligibility is available as an optional license for TMxCore.
