TouchMonitor TMR7

Loudness in Radio Broadcasting: TouchMonitor TMR7

4-Channel Metering Solution for Broadcast Environments
Loudness, true peak, PPM, vectorscope, moving-coil instruments, RTA, and correlation: The TMR7 TouchMonitor 4-channel solution featuring 7“ touchscreen and the unique TouchMonitor operating concept integrates all metering options required in radio broadcasting to a solution made to measure. Two AES3 digital inputs allow for parallel monitoring of the on-air signal and a PFL source.

The hardware and software of the TMR7 TouchMonitor are perfectly adjusted to radio-broadcast requirements. The technological basis of the new unit is the TM7 TouchMonitor with its flexible modular configuration. Available as desktop, fitted, or OEM unit, the TM7 covers all applications in professional audio metering.

Easy Integration
Thanks to its versatile interfaces, the TMR7 makes integration into any studio environment a breeze. The four audio inputs provided by the two AES3 XLR ports are flexibly configurable for mono, stereo, or multichannel sources, providing separate instruments for each source. Plus, the GPIO interface for overall control, the Ethernet port, and the VGA output for external display units offer even more functionality.

Simple but Flexible
The intuitive operating concept of the TouchMonitor range offers maximum flexibility. Freely scalable instruments can be moved to any position on the graphical surface, allowing you to personalize the entire screen area. Views, scaling, and metering standards are separately definable for each signal source. In addition, the convenient on-screen help function supports you during the setup whenever needed.

Update 6-01 expands basic software and instruments

In Firmware version 6-01, the RTA provides a 1/12-octave mode, Cinema Loudness standards (LEQ(M), TASA, SAWA) have been implemented, and the Audio Vectorscope instrument allows up to 4 instances. The output routing can individually be adjusted for each preset, all presets can be exported or imported at the same time. Further details can be found in the Release Notes (included in the update package), or in the data sheet.

For existing units the firmware is available for download. See the Audio Monitors/TouchMonitor TMR7 section of members area (Manuals & Software).

Instruments can be scaled, randomly positioned and combined.
This example shows a possible arrangement for radio broadcasting: For example for monitoring the on-air signal, the Loudness Sum instrument (M, S values) is placed on the left, with the corresponding PPM and the Loudness Range instrument in "MagicLRA" mode right beside and the numerical display of the I loudness value below, followed by the Audio Vectorscope in the middle with the corresponding phase meter. For parallel monitoring of a PFL source, a combined Loudness Meter and PPM for other signal sources is placed on the right.

With Loudness licence activated (see Options) Loudness measurements acc. to the current standards like EBU R128, ITU-R BS.1770-3/1771-1, ATSC A/85, ARIB, OP-59, AGCOM, CALM, and SPL measurements can be made. The different groups on the screenshot show some examples. Additional the LRA instrument for the graphical display of the Loudness Range is available.

With RTA licence activated (see Options) the Real Time Analyzer displays the frequency spectrum of the selected input channels.

With Premium PPM licence activated (see Options) additional scales and instruments like PPM/VU moving coils are available. The example shows on the left the ARD+9 scale (red marker), right beside a VU moving coil instrument in vertical orientation (yellow marker), in the middle a PPM moving coil instrument with vertical arrangement of the stereo and M/S displays (green marker) and on the right (blue marker) and below (orange marker) PPMs displayed in classical mode to simulate the look of RTW's classical peakmeters with gas-plasma displays.

This example shows a combination of the "Loud. Recal." instrument (loudness recalculation) of the Timecode Reader licence together with the Loudness Chart instrument of the Logging Data Server licence. This allows loudness measurements controlled by a timecode with recalculation and the display of the course of its measured values (TP, M, S, I) for analyzing.
