TouchMonitor TM9

Setting New Standards: TouchMonitor TM9

The new level
The all-new audio metering units of the TouchMonitor range is RTW‘s answer to growing requirements in today‘s production, post-production, and broadcast world. Equipped with high-grade 7“ or 9“ touch screens and an easy-to-use GUI, TouchMonitor enters a new level of professional audio metering in terms of precision, performance, efficiency and flexibility.

Simple and flexible
The graphical user interface used in the TouchMonitor TM9 is controlled simply by using your finger or a mouse. Instruments can be scaled, randomly positioned and combined in almost every way for optimized use of available screen space. Even multiple instruments of the same type, assigned to different input channels and configurations, can be displayed simultaneously. Plus, a context-sensitive, on-screen help feature supports the user, allowing him to make setup changes with ease.

Update 5-11 expands software licence options SW20008 and SW20014

Firmware version 5-11 expands the Timecode Reader licence SW20008 with the Loud. Recal. instrument (loudness recalculation) to control a loudness measurement by a timecode either with recalcualtion or without. The option of continuous recalculation directly updates the I value without the need of a complete passage through the program after corrections on overdriven program spots have been done.

An ideal addition is the Loudness Chart instrument expanding the Logging Data Server licence SW20014. It is used to show the course of and to analyse loudness measurements. The Loudness Chart instrument displays the quality (e. g. exceedings) of the relevant loudness values TP, M, S, and I on horizontal bars with individually definable colors. The progress of a measurement (value over time) can be displayed on a coordinate system with up to four graphs. Therefore, different display options are available. A dynamic line shows the position of the Relative Gate, and an additional bargraph for the display of the current I loudness value can be selected.

For existing units the firmware is available for download. See the Audio Monitors/TouchMonitor TM9 section of members area (Manuals & Software).

This module is a tool to allow generating digital line test signals according to EBU 3304, GLITS, and BLITS definitions as well as automatic and significant analyzing of channel allocation, level, phase and delay, and polarity of received BLITS 5.1 test signals.

  • SW20014: Logging Data Server
--- Precondition: Software module SW20002 is already installed! ---
This module allows to collect data of Loudness and TruePeak measurements and either to store them on a USB flash drive or to send them via IP connection to the LQL - Loudness Quality Logger PC software for analyzing (available free of charge at PC Software/LQL - Loudness Quality Logger section to registered users). At Audio Monitors/TouchMonitor TM9 - Manuals section of members area (Manuals & Software) you may find a tutorial.
The module also includes the Loudness Chart instrument for displaying and analyzing the course of a loudness measurement directly on TM9's display.

Instruments

Instruments can be scaled, randomly positioned and combined.
This example shows the dual bar display of True Peak and Loudness Meter (left), the EBU Loudness Sum Meter acc. to EBU R128 and other documents (middle), loudness control keys (below), the numerical display of the loudness values S and I (to the right), and the Surround Sound Analyzer (House display, right above) adapted to loudness. All instruments are in one audio group (red marker).

This example shows a nearly classical adjustment: combined Loudness Meter and Peak Program Meter and Loudness Sum Meter along with the Surround Sound Analyzer (House display).

The red marked group in this example shows the Loudness Meter with additional True Peak meter (left) and the Surround Sound Analyzer (House display, above right). The yellow marked group shows an analog PPM with additional SPL bargraphs (middle) and the 2-channel Audio Vectorscope (below right).

This example shows more combinations and other sizes of the instruments in one group:

In the upper row from left to right is displayed: Loudness Meter with switched on PPM bargraphs, 2-channel Audio Vectorscope and Surround Sound Analyzer.

The lower row shows the Loudness Radar Meter of TC Electronic® on the left and the Real TimeAnalyzer on the right.

With Multichannel licence activated (see Options) several groups with different channel formats inside a preset can be displayed simultaneously. The screenshot shows examples of different groups.

With Loudness licence activated (see Options) Loudness measurements acc. to the current standards like EBU R128, ITU-R BS.1770-3/1771-1, ATSC A/85, ARIB, OP-59, AGCOM, CALM, and SPL measurements can be made. The different groups on the screenshot show some examples. Additional the LRA instrument for the graphical display of the Loudness Range is available.

With RTA licence activated (see Options) the Real Time Analyzer displays the frequency spectrum of the selected input channels.

With Multichannel licence, Loudness licence and SSA licence activated (see Options) the Surround Sound Analyzer visualizes the dynamic behaviour of all display elements enabling you to see the balance of a surround programme intuitively and at a glance. The different groups on the screenshot show some examples.

With Loudness licence and Radar licence activated (see Options) Loudness measurements also can be made with the Loudness Radar Meter of TC Electronic®. Beside the Loudness Sum Meter the screenshot shows two Radar instruments running. Two indipendent audio signals can be monitored simultaneously.

With Premium PPM licence activated (see Options) additional scales and instruments like Audio Vectorscope or Multi-Correlator (with Multichannel licence) are available. The example shows beside the classical digital scale (group with red marker) the ARD+9 scale (yellow marker), an NHK scale (orange marker), and a Zoom scale (green marker). The Audio Vectorscope is added to the yellow stereo group and the Multi-Correlator to the red 5.1 group. Added are Moving Coil instruments for stereo modes displaying different scales in different arrangements. PPM's additionally can be displayed with segments or in a classic mode to simulate the look of RTW's classical peakmeters with gas-plasma displays.

This example shows further instruments of the Premium PPM licence: The Moving Coil instrument left above is set to BBC mode (BR IIb scale with additional Loudness display). One instance of the two Audio Vectorscopes is assigned to it and placed below left. The Moving Coils right beside run with VU mode. Above in the middle, a PPM in Classic mode is displayed. It simulates the classical gas plasma displays of the former RTW peakmeter. The Multicorrelator is assigned to it and placed below. Right above the second instance of the Audio Vectorscope is displayed. A PPM with British IIb scale is assigned to it and placed below. Finally, right below a Stereo PPM with DIN+10 scale is displayed.

With BLITS licence activated (see Options) RTW provides an instrument not only to generate a BLITS test signal but to use the BLITS sequence for a user friendly and comprehensive analysis and display of level, channel allocation, phase, delay and polarity of incoming digital audio signals in 5.1 mode.  Adjustable limits complement the analyzer. The sequence can be acquired from any digital input of the TouchMonitor.
The example shows on the upper left line an outgoing BLITS test signal, below it an incomingsignal. The green bars resp. red ones, if faulty, display the status of channel allocation, level, phase and delay, and polarity of the incoming BLITS test signal. The table displayed in the lower left half reports the significant analysis in detail. Additionally, a peakmeter for level control with bargraph is displayed in the right half.

This example shows on top the "Loud. Recal." instrument of the Timecode Reader licence. It is used to control a loudness measurement by a timecode either with recalcualtion or without. The option of continuous recalculation directly updates the I value without the need of a complete passage through the program after corrections on overdriven program spots have been done.
The Loudness Chart instrument of the Logging Data Server licence is displayed below. It displays the quality (e. g. exceedings) of the relevant loudness values TP, M, S, and I on horizontal bars with individually definable colors. The progress of a measurement (value over time) can be displayed on a coordinate system with up to four graphs.
The Program Meter on the left displays peak level and loudness of every channel of the stereo signal the loudness measurement is based on.
